Getting your Classic Car out for Spring

Getting your classic car out for spring?

With the sun shining and Bank Holidays to look forward to, it’s time to dust off your classic and hit the road! Whether you’re gearing up for car meets, shows, or just a scenic drive, a little TLC after winter storage will go a long way. Here’s how to make sure your pride and joy is road-ready:

Check the Fluids

Before firing up the engine, check your oil, coolant, and brake fluid levels. Top them up as needed to keep things running smoothly.

Inspect the Tyres

Tyres can lose pressure and develop cracks, bulges, or flat spots when sitting for long periods. Check the PSI, inflate if necessary, and make sure the tread is in good condition.

Test the Brakes

Brakes can seize up over time through lack of use, especially if the handbrake was left engaged when going in to storage. Pump the pedal to check responsiveness and ensure everything releases properly before setting off. Think, can you push the car with the handbrake released.

Give It a Thorough Clean

If your car has been tucked away all winter, it’s probably collected some dust, dirt, or even some uninvited critters! Give it a good wash, wax if needed, and inspect for any signs of unwanted winter guests hibernating in exhausts, wheel arches or engine bays.

Start the Engine

If you’ve had a trickle charger on, you should be good to go with your battery. Though it always good to double check. Let the engine idle for a few minutes, and gently test the brakes before setting off.

Need a Hand? We’ve Got You!

If you’re unsure where to start or run into a problem, bring it down to us at Pitt Lane. Our expert team is here to get your classic running smoothly so you can enjoy those sweet summer drives once again!
